Shift knobs3/10/2024 Best Compromise and probably what I'll use the most: STi Duracon, feels decent in the hand (sticker on top is annoying, but functional) is reasonably light so has that good shift feedbackĪll that said. If only where the ball interfaces with the bottom were a little more smooth. Sti duracon is not much heavier and has a much better tactile feel in the hand.īest Value - Killer B, can't stress the value of light, simple and cheap here. Shift Feel/feedback - Killer B, it's just soooo Light. So, My favorites: Tactile feel - V1 Carbon, smooth, and sits the lowest (threaded almost all the way through) STI Duracon is close second. Shoulda worn gloves to keep all the metal bits out of my hands, woops.Įdit: Raceseng makes 2 shift knobs for the new 86/BRZ generation that is already bore'd out to the correct size. The shifting is much smoother with the heavier knob, feels like it falls into place rather than needing pushed/pulled into place. The microfiber with the vice worked well to keep the finish from getting messed up and the few marks I made on the bottom there are not visible when installed and it fits just as the oem knob does. I'll have to get a picture of it in the car but here are the dremel pictures. I think I saw someone else did this as well on this forum so I gave it a shot. Since the lockout wouldn't fit, I dremeled out the inside of the shift knob so it worked with the new lockout. I really wanted to keep using my 1 LB Raceseng Contour shift knob that my S/O got me as a gift. Was really liking the looks of the subieflow, but it seems the styles may sit higher than mine right now.Īs Paschal said, the diameter of the lock out is larger on the second gen. Is light but slighty more dense than wood. Sits low, No grip style here, reverse lockout should actually go up into the knobģ. I had a countersunk hole underneath that accomodates the reverse lockout up inside of it.ġ. Since almost the entire length was threaded, it sat very low, making the shifter shorter. It was very light, and suddenly I could feel exactly what I was doing on every shift and KNEW exactly what gear I was in.Ģ. Then I put an old homemade Wood knob I made for my old MR2 (or maybe my old bugeye wrx) that I found, and I found it favorable over either the stock and STI because:ġ. Then I put the stock knob on for fun and thought, "hmm, feels better in the hand -smoother" AND about similar weight. Didn't give it much thought other than "it must be better, it's $200+".
